The Eatonville School Board approved Lucy Fountain as its new interim superintendent at its Jan. 4 meeting.
“Lucy retired from Eatonville School District in 2011,” Board chair Paulette Gilliardi said in a news release. “She served in the district as a teacher, coach, principal (19 years) and director of curriculum instruction and assessment (13 years). She holds a BA and a Master’s in Educational Administration from the University of Washington. However, Lucy has really never left the district.
“She worked on several projects for superintendents Stewart and Bahr to include the teacher mentor program currently in place, substituted for both teachers and principals, and volunteers regularly in classrooms. Lucy supervised student teachers from Washington Governors University. Supporting fundraising for EHS seniors through Dollars for Scholars is a passion of hers. She and her husband, Dan, live in Eatonville and continue to volunteer and support the athletic programs. Lucy is happy to help make the transition to the next superintendent and support ESD in any way she can.”
Acting Superintendent Sally Keeley said in a release: “Due to the workload demands of multiple positions, it is in the best interest of district programs and schools to add Lucy Fountain as the interim superintendent. I have requested this support so that I can focus on the needed projects and work of the teaching and learning department. I look forward to partnering with Lucy as we continue supporting our staff, students and community in the important work of educating our students.”
Keeley was appointed acting superintendent after Superintendent Gary Neal went on medical leave for an undetermined time.
