MVP Sarell, G-K teammates among SPSL's best

By Pat Jenkins The Dispatch Befitting for a team that dominated nearly all of its conference opposition during the regular sesaon, nine members of the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles have been named to the All-4A South Puget Sound League first team for 2016. They include offensive lineman Foster Sarell, who was named co-Most Valuable Player. Joining him among the league's elite are: • On offense, quarterback Dylan Morris, running back Micah Smith, and lineman Matt Shook. • On defense, lineman Ethan Porter, linebackers Viliami Hansen and Brandon Becker, and defensive back Kasia Childress. • And punter Eian Olmos on special teams. Sarell's MVP award, which he shares with running back Connor Wedington of Sumner, is an unusual coup. Linemen rarely are chosen for the honor that normally goes to playmakers on offense such as quarterbacks or ballcarriers. But Sarell, a senior who is also an all-state performer, is one of the most highly recruited high school players in the nation by colleges that covet the 6-6, 315-pound battering ram in Graham-Kapowsin's vaunted running attack the last four years. Graham-Kapowsin posted a 9-2 record this season. The only losses were to Camas in the state touranment quarterfinals and to Sumner, a semifinalist and the SPSL champion. Beneficiaries of the blocking by Sarell, Shook and the rest of the offensive line included Smith and Morris. They were a potent 1-2 punch running and passing, respectively.Smith, who ran for 25 touchdowns (10 of them in a two-week binge that included six against Puyallup), was particularly productive. Both are expected to be back with the Eagles next fall. Smith is a junior and Morris is a sophomore. Porter, Hansen and Childress also are underclassmen. Seniors Shook and Becker are exiting along with Sarell and Olmos.
