All-Evergreen on the gridiron

By Pat Jenkins The Dispatch A football campaign for Eatonville High School that gained statewide attention was equally notable within the Evergreen League. The Cruisers, who rolled undefeated to the league championship, also can boast the Most Valuable Player, Co-Defensive MVPs, Coach of the Year and a slew of first-team, second-team and honorable mention honors in All-Evergreen voting. George Tomal, a hard-to-stop running back on offense and a play-stops-here linebacker on defense, was named the league MVP. Sharing the Defensive Most Valuable Player award were Justin Kaelin, a defensive end, and Johnathan Warner, a linebacker. Warner, Kaelin and Tomal are seniors. George Fairhart, who in his 22nd season as Eatonville's coach guided this year's team to the league title in its first season as a member of the Evergreen, was named Coach of the Year. His career coaching record is 155 wins and 69 losses, including this year's 11-1 mark. The Cruisers reached the semifinals of the 1A state tournament before losing to Cascade Christian, the eventual champion. Cascade Christian beat Eatonville 42-14 two weeks ago, then topped Colville 27-26 in overtime in the championship game last Saturday. The All-Evergreen first team includes Kaelin as a receiver, Will Harris as an offensive and defensive lineman, quarterback Jacob McCormick, tight end Wyatt Coleman, offensive lineman Josh Miller, and defensive back Isaac Boettcher. Named to the second team was linebacker Mason Call. Running backs Ryan Franz and Logan Moose received honorable mention. Miller, McCormick and Moose are juniors. All the other league-honored Cruisers are seniors.
