Bethel falls in softball tourney

Redmond's revenge put an end to Bethel's hope for a state 4A high school softball championship last week in Spokane. A 7-1 loss to Redmond in the opening round of the two-day tournament bounced the Braves into the consolation rounds, where they did battle back for victories over Gig Harbor 7-1, Yelm 4-3 and Olympia 13-3. Camas ended Bethel's season with an 8-1 decision that decided which team would play for third and fourth place. Bethel finished fourth in last year's state tourney, in part because of a 4-3 victory over Redmond. The Mustangs avenged that loss last week, then went on to be elminated in the consolation bracket of the double-elimination format. Tahoma emerged as the champion, topping Richland 9-1 in the title game.
