Bowlers and wrestlers academic state champs

Graham-Kapowsin High School's bowling and boys wrestling teams have been named academic state champions for the 2012-13 season by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association. The WIAA is the governing body of high school sports in Washington. The bowling team members, whose collective grade point average (gap) of 3.8 was tops in their sport, include Emily Menefee, Emma Schmitz, Madison Rayner, Katy Schmitz, Katelyn Carlson, Ashley Tryfon and Morgan Thetford. Members of the wrestling team, who were honored for their combined gpa of 3.4, include Zach Franke, Spencer Schroeder, Elia Alyabyev, Austin Chrisoph, Taylor Salzberg, Tyler Repp, Ian Steen, Anyen Abbe, Mack Busey, Justin Gathers, Josh Figueroa, Joe Gomez, Kyle Madsen, Andrew Riecke, Michael Flores, Jared Schroeder, Adam Romano, Austin Jones, Jacob Nicholas, Daniel Shipley, Gavin Eaglin, Kaleb Ogburn and Jde Bateman. A state academic title also was awarded to a third team from the Bethel School District GÇô Spanaway Lake High's girls wrestlers, who include Heaven Arrington, Brittany Brooks, Brittany Hager, Linda Huff, Stephanie Warren, Charlotte Whitman, Maggie Cox and Raquel Gray.
