A countywide burn ban in Pierce County, effective at 12 noon Friday, has been declared by the county fire marshal in response to weather forecasts of continued dry conditions. The ban, ordered in conjunction with the Pierce County Fire Chiefs Association and the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR), applies to all outdoor burning except for small recreational fires in established fire pits at approved campgrounds or on private property with the owner's permission. The use of gas and propane self-contained stoves and barbecues are allowed under the ban, according to fire marshal Warner Webb. Holders of approved DNR burn permits should call 1-800-323-BURN for more information, officials said.
