Eatonville High School opened the state 1A fastpitch tournament with a victory, but its dreams of a championship ended quickly. The Cruisers topped Hoquiam 5-4 to advance to the second round of the tourney staged in Richland. That's when Connell, the eventual champion, dashed their hopes with a 10-0 shutout. That was followed by an 18-1 loss to Elma in the consolation bracket, bringing an end to Eatonville's 2013 season. Eatonville reached the state tournament by winning the Nisqually League's regular-season title. Connell was never scored upon while rolling through the tournament. In addition to Eatonville, the champions blanked Woodland 4-0 in the title game after zipping Montesano 5-0 in the semifinals.
