Cruisers just miss regionals

Eatonville High School's boys basketball team will remember its 2015-16 season as one of "almost." The Cruisers beat La Center 51-49 last Thursday in the district playoffs to move within one victory of reaching the 1A state regional tournament. But their quest ended Saturday at Kelso High School, where the Cruisers fell to Hoquiam 71-49 in the game to decide the third-place finisher in the Southwest District 4 field. The district's top three teams (King's Way Christian and Kalama are the others) qualified for this week's regionals and a shot at reaching next month's state tournament. Eatonville had to win Thursday in order to have its final chance at earning a state berth. Hoquiam passed the same test on the same night by beating Castle Rock 57-55. Eatonville, which played its way into the district event by finishing third in Evergreen League during the regular season, won its district opener 68-61 before losing to King's Way Christian 61-55 in the second round.
