A man died in a shooting outside a tavern in the Ashford-Elbe area Feb. 7. Details about the incident weren't available from the Pierce County Sheriff Department, which was investigting the incident. But the county medical examiner confirmed that Paul Arthur Hewlett, 50, of Eatonville died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. According to an unconfirmed news report, the shooting occurred in the bar's parking lot during an argument. Residents in the area reported seeing numerous police cars racing toward Elbe on State Route 7 East, then seeing an ambulance racing the other direction about an hour later.
