Rachel Price of Eatonvlle High School was the first runnerup in last Saturday's coronation of the Daffodil Festival's queen for 2015. The crown went to Ashley Becker, the first festival's first queen from Bonney Lake High School. The coronation ceremony was staged at Pantages Theater in Tacoma. Price, a senior at Eatonville, is among 24 young women representing their high schools and communities as official ambassadors of the festival and Pierce County. Each were selected in pageants held by their schools. During the queen's coronation program, they were judged on their academic standing, personality and attitude, speaking ability, appearance, sociability, speech content, awareness of the festival, and impromptu speaking ability. In school, Price is an Honor Society member and has been active as secretary of the Key Club, a tennis player, and a student representative to the Eatonville School Board. In the community, she volunteers with Changing Reins, an organization that provides horseback assisted therapies, at the Pierce County Fair and as a Nisqually Stream Steward. The festival's Grand Floral Parade is scheduled for April 11 in Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner and Orting.
