Alana Smith has been named executive director of Eatonville Family Agency. Smith is the third leader of the social services agency in the past seven months. She replaces Leah Vanderstoep, who was the successor to the previous director, Lori Culver. Culver, who held the post since January 2013, resigned last fall in order to move out of state. The agency, which is based at Eatonville Community Center, operates food and clothing banks and programs for domestic violence assistance, senior citizens, and rent and utility assistance. It also works with the state on local access to food stamps and medical enrollment. The agency's board of directors said it chose Smith because of her community involvement, including her role as director of Youth Connection, an Eatonville-based, non-profit organization that runs youth and family programs, including community dinners and an after-school program. Smith has experience "applying for grants, and she is known and respected in the community. We feel lucky to have her,GÇ¥ said Ruth Ferris, a member of the board.
