Admission to state parks in Washington will be free June 1, 8 and 9 in recognition of National Get Outdoors Day. On "free days,GÇ¥ as designated by the state Parks and Recreation Commission, visitors aren't required to display a Discover Pass for daytime visits. Other free days are scheduled for Aug. 4, Sept. 28 (National Public Lands Day, and Nov. 9-11 (Veterans Day weekend). State legislation created the Discover Pass, a $30 annual or $10 one-day permit required on recreation land managed by State Parks, the state Department of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) and the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The legislation allowed State Parks to designate 12 days when passes wouldn't be required for admission to parks. The free days apply only at state parks. The Discover Pass is required year-round at DFW and DNR-managed land.
