Grid action Friday

The 2012 high school football season will complete week 2 this Friday, with all three local schools in action.
Eatonville has a non-league home date with Elma, starting at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, Graham-Kapowsin and Bethel will face fellow South Puget Sound League 4A members on their opponents' turf. Graham-Kapowsin will be at Curtis, a South division rival, while Bethel will travel to Maple Valley in King County to face Tahoma, an SPSL.North division school.
G-K (in Post Falls, Idaho), Bethel (against Spanaway Lake) and Eatonville (versus Orting) opened their seasons last week. All three games were played after today's print edition of The Dispatch went to press, so results weren't available. They were, however, reported in the online edition (dispatchnews.com).
Eatonville's opponent this week, Elma, is a member of the 1A Evergreen League and had a 4-4 record in 2011. The Eagles have failed to reach the post-season playoffs for six consecutive years.
Graham-Kapowsin will be up against a perennial SPSL powerhouse when it battles Curtis on the Vikings' turf in University Place. Curtis was 6-5 last season, a comparatively down year for the school, but still qualified for the post-season playoffs. E.J. Deveaux, an all-league performer at tailback on offense and cornerback on defense, is one of the Vikings' top performers.
Tahoma, which will host Bethel Friday, has five starters back from its 2011 squad that posted a 6-4 record. The returnees include junior quarterback Shane Nelson and wide receiver Damon Funk. Tony Davis is in his 19th year as coach of the Bears.
