Jessica Thormodsgard and Masin Schmidt, students at Eatonville High School, are the queen and king of the 2016 Community Day festivities in Eatonville this Friday. The annual celebration of community connections will be highlighted by a coronation of Thormodsgard, Schmidt and the rest of the festival's court chosen from students in the Eatonville School District. The public ceremony, which typically draws a standing room-only crowd for the pageantry and the accompanying entertainment, will be held at 1 p.m. in the high school's gymnasium. Outside on the school grounds, activities and booths hosted by community organizations will be offered. Community Day, now in its 90th year, began in 1926 as a May Day celebration. Over the years, the event has come to symbolize and promote the links between the town's schools and the general Eatnoville-area populace.
