Also signing up during the five-day filing period will be contenders for fire commissioner and water commissioner in local districts. There are no races for county, state or federal offices. The elections department in the Pierce County auditor's office will accept candidacies Monday throuigh Friday. Offices that attract at least three candidates will be on the primary eleciton ballot Aug. 6, with the top two finishers advancing to the general election Nov. 5. Offices with two candidates or one will only be on the November ballot. The office of mayor, now held by Ray Harper, and two Town Council seats are up for election in Eatonville. Council Position 1 is currently filled by Gordon Bowman, while Bob Schaub is the Position 2 incumbent. All three offices carry four-year terms. Three Bethel School Board positions are on the ballot. All are held by appointees - Warren Smith (District 1), Stanley Chapin (District 3) and Michael Audas (District 4) - who replaced board members who resigned. The terms for the seats held by Smith and Chapin are expiring this year, so they would have been up for grabs regardless of the resignations. Two are at-large and filled by Jeff Lucas and Ronda Litzenberger. The third, District 2, is occupied by Bob Homan. The at-large seats will be voted on by the entire district, while the race for Homan's post will be decided by voters living in the area designated as District 2. Lucas was appointed last year to the seat that Kirk Heinz resigned. The term isn't over until the end of 2015, but the seat is up for election this year. The terms for Litzenberger and Homan expire this year. Three offices of South Pierce Fire and Rescue commissioner - now held by Olivia Werner, John Christian and Roy Kadow - are up for election.
