Highway open after two-day closure

A stretch of State Route 7 near Ohop Valley Road west of Eatonville reopened Tuesday after being closed since April 6 because of a small slide. According to the state Department of Transportation, five cubic yards of debris slid from a hillside and into a ditch beside the highway. DOT crews removed the debris, and geotechnical engineers are monitoring the hillside for signs of additional movement, a department spokesman said. The highway was temporarily blocked by a mudslide March 17 between Ohop Valley Road and 416th Street East. Potential for more slides kept the highway closed until March 21.
