Highway project will disrupt traffic

Roadwork that starts today on a section of State Route 161 will result in traffic delays, according to the state Department of Transportation.
In a project scheduled to continue through December, crews will restripe the highway and add new lights and signs from Ohop Valley Extension Road to a point just south of 304th-á Street East. Motorists can expect one-way, alternating traffic between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. each Monday through Thursday. Work also is planned between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon on Fridays and 6 p.m. until 8 a.m. on Saturdays, a DOT spokeswoman said.
DOT awarded an $800,000 contract to Totem Electric of Tacoma for the project.
