Highway work will delay traffic

Driving on State Route 161 in the Eatonville area will require some extra patience the next few weeks, as work on highway resurfacing will cause traffic delays, according to the state Department of Transportation (DOT). Starting June 30, crews will prepare for a chip seal project from Lynch Street East to roughly 395th Street East. The project also will include pavement repair on the highway near 314th Street East and State Route 7 near 276th Street East. Drivers will experience daytime and possible nighttime single-lane closures. Any lane closures will occur after 9 a.m., DOT officials said. Crews will work Monday through Friday, although no work will occur on the July 3-4. The project is expected to conclude in late July. Speed limits will be reduced to 35 miles per hour during chip seal operations, with an advisory speed of 25 mph. Motorcyclists and bicyclists should use extreme caution in work zones due to loose rocks on the roadway and shoulder, a DOT spokesman said.
