A man from Canada had to be airlifted to a hospital after being injured in a fall while climbing Mount Rainier last Sunday. The climber suffered multiple traumatic injuries in the accident, which occurred while he was descending from the summit, according to Mount Rainier National Park officials. They said the incident, which happened at the mountain's 13,500-feet level at the top of Emmons Glacier, was reported at Camp Schurman at approximately 4 p.m. by four members of the climber's nine-person climbing party. Rescue operations began immediately. An Army Reserve Chinook helicopter flew two of the park's climbing rangers to a location approximately 300 feet above the scene of the accident. The rangers helped load the victim into the helicopter, which flew him to Madigan Army Medical Center. No further information on the climber's condition was reported.
