JROTC and volunteer 'army' pitch in at Soldiers Home

When they aren't distinguishing themselves in competitions, members of the Graham-Kapowsin High School Junior ROTC are helping others. Forty-five members of the unit were among 260-plus volunteers who participated in a community service project recently at the Washington Soldiers Home in Orting. The volunteers, who also included Comcast employees and a local Boy Scouts troop, painted picnic benches, mended fences, refurbished storage sheds, cut grass, weeded and planted flowers. During the 2015-16 school year, the Junior ROTC unit also has been busy winning awards in drill meets. During one such event, the awards and their recipients included, in first place, Commanders Award: Unarmed Commander , Aidan Kees; Iron Man, Brandon Curry; and Unarmed Drill Down, Dakota Garcia. In second place, Armed Duels Team, Alejandre/Morales; Color Guard Team 1; Iron Man, Cody Lenior; Commanders Award: Armed Commander, Chase Berg; Armed Drill Down, David Wilson. In third place, Physical Strength Team 2; Color Guard Team 2; Iron Man, Aidan Kees; Iron Woman, Trinity Colvin; Unarmed Drill Down, Alexis Collier; Armed Drill Down, Mason Potter. In fourth place, Marksmanship Team 1. And in fifth lace, Marksmanship Team 2.
