Keep county rule on marijuana licenses

Pierce County Council member Derek Young has prepared an ordinance that will undo the safeguards the Council put in place to manage the proliferation of recreational marijuana into unincorporated Pierce County. It is co-sponsored by council member Connie Ladenberg. This proposed ordinance, 2015-27, deletes our requirement that marijuana shall be removed from the federal schedule of controlled substances prior to issuing an occupancy permit. Thus, allowing it to be (illegally) grown, processed and retailed in unincorporated Pierce County. It also removes the requirement that recreational marijuana retail establishments be located in "stand-alone' buildings. Businesses have been known to close or relocate when marijuana moves in next door. This ordinance puts your elected officials in a precarious position'it makes us law breakers! This will increase drug usage, highways accidents, deaths, addictions and facilitate dysfunctional families. Plus, Pierce County will be breaking federal law and breaking their oath of office to uphold the laws of this land. There is marijuana in others cities and counties. We don't need it here, we have to many pot heads already. The ordinance is scheduled to be heard in the Community Development Committee on May 27 at 9:00 am. It is then scheduled for final hearing June 2 at the regularly scheduled 3:00 council meeting. Please email all council members about legalizing recreational marijuana in unincorporated Pierce County. Tell them you're incensed to hear about this and you want this ordnance killed now.
