Leaders for Alzheimer's support groups needed in Graham area

Lutheran Community Services Northwest (LCSNW) and Alzheimer's Association of Western/Central Washington are teaming to recruit and train facilitators for new support groups that can help caregivers of people with Alzheimer's and other dementia. Hundreds of caregivers are on waiting lists for the assistance, and the need is especially great in the Graham and South Hill areas, according to Pat Witt, program director of senor caregiver support for LCSNW. Group facilitators help connect caregivers of persons resources. The ideal facilitator is a good listener and problem-solver, has a sense of humor, is comfortable with expressions of emotion, and can make a one-year commitment. Facilitators receive free training and ongoing support from Alzheimer's Association. More information is available from Witt at pwitt@lcsnw.org and 253-722-5691. LCSNW is a non-profit human services agency serving communities throughout Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Its offices include one in Tacoma, which serves Pierce County residents with programs for seniors and independent living. Alzheimer's Association, also a non-profit organization, serves Alzheimer's patients, their families and caregivers, and healthcare professionals. The Western/Central Washington chapter, formed in 1978, is one of seven founding chapters of the National Alzheimer's Association.
