Library board needs new member

Applications are due by April 24 to become the newest member of Pierce County Library System's Board of Trustees.-á The board sets library system goals and objectives, approves budgets and contracts, sets policies, and studies community needs. Members are appointed by the Pierce County executive and confirmed by the County Council. They serve five-year terms as non-paid volunteers.-á The board meets monthly. Current members are Robert Allen, Donna Albers, Linda Ishem, J.J. McCament and Allen Rose. Rose's term expires this July, and his replacement's first meeting would be in August. The library system lends about 6 -ámillion items per year in a service area that covers 1,800 square miles and a population of more than 560,000.-á With a budget of more than $28 million for 2015, the Pierce County system is the fourth-largest library organization in Washington. As an independent taxing district, nearly all of its funding comes from property taxes.-á
