Morgan Maida has one more season of high school fastpitch before she takes her pitching and hitting prowess all the way across the country to the college level. Maida, a senior at Eatonville High School, has signed a letter-of-intent with Holy Family University. About a year from now, she'll be suiting up with the NCAA Division 2 team in Philadelphia, Pa. on a full-ride scholarship that's part athletic and part academic. "She understands the term student-athlete," said Erik Danielson, her coach at Eatonville. "She is very successful in the classroom and on the field." Holy Family finished second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference last season in the Tigers' third year under coach Davon Ortega. Maida said Holy Family began recruiting her after she played in a game last summer in Philadelphia for prospective college recruits. "I'm super-excited. I love the school and the coaches,GÇ¥ she said. After she graduates from Eatonville next spring, Maida will join the Tigers for a fall season, followed by the regular season beginning in March 2015. Maida was an All-Nisqually League pitcher last spring for the team that won the league championship and reached the state 1A tournament. She also was a strong hitter for the Cruisers, often having multiple-RBI days at the plate while holding down the opponents with her pitching.
