McKibben honored for all-around excellence

Lexi McKibben, a junior at Eatonville High School, has been named a CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week by the telecommunications company, the Seattle Seahawks and Q13 FOX television. McKibben received her award last Thursday at the school and was honored along with nine other recipients of the award during last Sunday's National Football League game at CenturyLink Field between the Seahawks and the New York Jets. McKibben's selection was based on her academics, community involvement, leadership and athletic performance. She has a 3.99 grade point average and completed College Prep classes for history and English during her sophomore year. She is Eatonville's National Honor Society president. By the time she graduates from high school, she plans to have a community college AA degree. Last summer, she was nominated to attend attend a law and justice program at Columbia University in New York with the Lead America program. McKibben has donated 171 hours of volunteer work to United Way and was part of Eatonville's Relay for Life committee last year. She tutors younger children, has helped with local food drives, and is a member of the her school's volleyball team. Her Athlete of the Week award includes a $1,000 grant from CenturyLink and the Seahawks for her school's ASB fund. Other award winners this year were from schools in Seattle, Monroe, Tacoma, Bonney Lake, Orting, Aberdeen and Olympia.
