Memorial Day ceremonies in Eatonville, Spanaway

Observances of Memorial Day are planned for south Pierce County over the holiday weekend. In Eatonville, American Legion Post 148 will host a ceremony at the Eatonville town cemetery on May 30 at 11 a.m. As part of the event, flags and crosses will be displayed on military veterans' graves from the morning of May 28 until 5 p.m. the day of the ceremony. The cemetery is at 530 Fir Ave. In Spanaway, Bethany Lutheran Church will be the scene of a service in the church cemetery May 30 at 10:30 a.m., with a flag and firing detail from Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The keynote speaker will be Army Maj. Jay Cash. Ceremonies will be held in the cemetery of the church, which is located at 26418 State Route 7. Also in Spanaway, Fir Lane Memorial Park (at 924 E. 176th St.) will host a ceremony at 1 p.m. on May 29. Army Lt. Col. Timothy Mungie will be the guest speaker. Coffee, donuts and hot dogs will be offered after the service.
