A native of South America is the new worship arts leader at CenterPoint. The Eatonville-based church announced Abraham Obreke, who was born in Chile and grew up as a "missionary kid" in several South and Central American countries, has taken over the position previously held by Debbie Hilliker. She stepped down in order to devote more time to her job with a cell phone company. The change from Hilliker, who is a graduate of Eatonville High School, to Obreke was made official June 15 during a ceremonial passing of the golden microphone, which church leaders said is representative of the worship arts leadership position. Obreke is a graduate of Canzon Institute, a worship leader school in Houston, Texas. Most of his ministry work to date has been with Spanish-speaking congregations. He and his family plan to open a school in August for leaders of worship and Christian arts. Bernd Stadtherr, a founding member of CenterPoint and its assistant worship leader, said he is "sad to see Debbie Hilliker go, but I'm also excited to see what is coming, and what we can do in the future with Abraham and his wife." Pastor Jonathan Cross added, "What I like most about Abraham is his love for the Lord and desire to develop spiritual leaders and heart of worship."
