Mount Rainier National Park will be the site of a volunteer service project and will admit visitors free of charge on Sept. 29 in recognition of National Public Lands Day.
General maintenance in the park is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteers can contact Mariely Lemagne of National Parks Conservation Association, which is helping coordinate the project, at mlemagne@npca.org for additional information.
The project is one of 22 in Washington and the only one in Washington announced by organizers of National Public Lands Day. Admission and user fees will be waived at national parks and at recreation areas controlled by the U.S. Forest Service during the annual observance that's intended to encourage stewardship by the public of natural resources.
