By Pat Jenkins The Dispatch Sadena Parks' high-profile year in women's professional golf continued last month with an appearance in the U.S. Golf Association's national championship. Parks, the former Bethel High School star, competed in the U.S. Open at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in North Carolina. She missed the 36-hole cut by two strokes with her score of 76-75-151. Parks was holding her own in the second round through the first five holes. She was at even par for the round, thanks to two birdies on opposite sides of a double bogey on the fourth hole. But five bogeys and no birdies the rest of the way kept her out of the final two days of action. She earned a spot in the Open, which was held June 19-22, by shooting 5-under-par 137 and leading the field in a 36-hole sectional qualifier at the Country Club at D.C. Ranch in Scottsdale, Ariz. Earlier this year, Parks, 23, was a contestant on Golf Channel's "Big Break Florida.GÇ¥ The reality show, broadcast nationally on the cable channel, pitted 12 women in head-to-head competition for an opportunity to qualify for the LPGA Tour. Parks also is continuing as a competitor on the Symetra Tour, the developmental tour for the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). She has $21,213 in earnings this season, 14th-best on the tour and highlighted by a second-place finish in the Island Resort Championship June 27-29 in Harris, Mich. Parks led the Island Resort field by a stroke with two holes left to play, but she bogeyed them both to finish one shot behind Molly Aronsson, who was Parks' teammate at the University of Washington.. Before graduating from Bethel in 2008, Parks won two state high school golf titles. In her senior year, she finished fifth in the PGA Junior Girls Championship. She turned pro after her college career.
