Pennant race in second half

An 11-1 loss to Orting capped a week of baseball for Eatonville High School in which the Cruisers split a pair of Nisqually League contests and found themselves in third place in the conference standings at the halfway point of the 2013 season. The tiff with Orting April 18 was a non-league game and meant nothing to the Nisqually League race. In the latter, Eatonville beat Bellevue Christian 4-2 April 15, a day after losing to Seattle Christian 6-4, and was 4-3 in the conference standings, trailing only unbeaten Cedar Park (8-0) and Seattle Christian (4-1). Orting pitcher Bud Long struck out eight Eatonville batters and his team pounded out 12 hits to take advantage of six errors by Eatonville. The Cruisers' run came in the fourth inning when Caleb Keefer doubled down the right field line to drive home Wyatt Coleman. At Bellevue Christian, Eatonville and the hosts each managed only four hits, but the Cruisers got the most ouf of theirs. In the first inning, Jesse Bollen led off with a walk and advanced to third on an overthrown pickoff attempt. Alex Brandt scored him on a groundball and reached base himself on a throwing error. Brandt then stole second base, moved to third on a sacrifice fly by Coleman, and scored on Keefer's two-out single to center to put the Cruisers ahead 2-0. Bellevue Christian used two back-to-back doubles with two outs and a Cruiser error to tie the game at 2-2 in the third inning before Eatonville retook the lead in the fifth when Bollen crushed a triple to right field and scored when the relay throw to third base got away. The Cruisers added an insurance run in the seventh inning when Cole Stevens was hit by a pitch, stole second base, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a short sacrifice fly by Connor Wienholz. Kyle Pederson pitched two and two-thirds of hitless relief to earn the save.
