" Candidates for Eatonville-area offices in the general election in November are scheduled to participate in a forum Oct. 11 hosted by-áEatonville Chamber of Commerce. The forum, open to the public, will begin at noon, following a lunch served at 11:30 at Eatonville Community Center. Lunch reservations (not required) can be made with the chamber at 360 832-4000. The races and their candidates expected to be part of the forum include Pierce County Council (Jim McCune and Marilyn Rassmussen), state Senate (Randi Becker and Bruce Lachney), state representative (Gary Alexander and Greg Hartman in one race and J.T. Wilcox, who's running unopposed, in the other) and Karen Porterfield and Dave Reichert (U.S. representative).
" Education will be the focus of a forum the Eatonville School Board will host Oct. 24 for Second District candidates for the Legislature. The forum is scheduled for 6 to 7 p.m. at Eatonville Middle School, located at 207 Carter St. in Eatonville. The candidates are Sen. Randi Becker and her opponent, Bruce Lachney, Rep. Gary Alexander and his foe, Greg Hartman, and Rep. J.T. Wilcox, who is running unopposed. The general election will end Nov. 6, the date that ballots must be returned by voters.
" U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell has endorsed fellow Democrat Karen Porterfield in her race for for U.S. representative in Washington's Eighth Congressional District. Cantwell praised Porterfield's support for working families and small businesses and her "passion to reform government.GÇ¥ Other prominent elected officials from Washington who've endorsed Porterfield over the incumbent, Republican Dave Reichert, include U.S. Sen. Patty Murray and U.S. Rep. Adam Smith, both Democrats. Endorsements of Reichert have come from numerous GOP organizations, including the Second Legislative District Republicans, and education and law enforcement-related groups. He has served in Congress since 2005 and is a former King County sheriff.
