Another year, another successful Relay for Life. Starting Saturday and continuing around the clock into Sunday, participants in the annual Eatonville Relay for Life walked or jogged around the track at Eatonville High School in support of the American Cancer Society's efforts to find a cure for cancer and help those who are in a battle with the disease. The Eatonville event had 168 participants and 23 teams that raised a combined $41,494. The top three teams in fund-raising were Flamingo and Friends ($12,291), Team Tornado ($3,930) and Team omaha ($2,639). The individuals who generated the most donations included Christine Blackett ($5,012), Kathleen Guenther ($2,480) and Michelle Richardson ($1,660). The local event organizers were Putney and Betty Zenkner, the co-chairmen, and Tami Crisman, the head of team development. Relay for Life events have spread throughout the United States since the first one was held in 1985 in Tacoma at the Unifversity of Puget Sound's Baker Stadium.
