Remodeled library reopens

The South Hill branch of Pierce County Library System, closed during November for remodeling, has reopened with new carpet and restrooms, better access to books and other materials, and expanded seating. Raffle prizes and free refreshments, including coffee from Starbucks, also greeted the public on the official reopening Dec. 1. The library improvements extend to the media area, areas for best-selling books and large-print books, new Christian fiction and Pacific Northwest history sections, a new area for the Friends of South Hill Library ongoing book sale, and a dedicated business section with printers, copiers, fax machines and counters for working on projects. A multi-pane glass-panel mural of Mount Rainier that serves as an wall was designed by Paul Armstrong. The panels were donated by Friends of South Hill Library. More upgrades are coming early next year, including electronic charging stations, new furniture and a redesigned reading area, library officials said. The library, located at 15420 Meridian E., is one of 17 branch libraries countywide. Others include Graham and Eatonville.
