Big-name rodeo performers and country music artists are headed for the Washington State Fair GÇô aka the Puyallup Fair GÇô this fall. In an early announcement of some of the grandstand entertainment lineup for this year's fair Sept. 6-22, fair officials said Craig Morgan ("Redneck Yacht ClubGÇ¥ and "Almost HomeGÇ¥) will perform after the opening-night rodeo, and Trace Adkins ("Ladies Love Country BoysGÇ¥ and "You're Gonna Miss ThisGÇ¥) will perform following the Saturday night rodeo as part of the Washington State Fair Pro Rodeo and Justin Boots Playoffs.-á Tickets for the concerts and rodeo went on sale Feb. 9 via www.thefair.com/concerts or by phone (888-559-3247. Tickets can also be purchased in person at the fair's box office on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The rodeo's competitors GÇô the top 24 in each event GÇô will be trying to reach the national finals in Las Vegas, Nev. Billed as one of the top five rodeos in the U.S., the Puyallup event is the 79th in the history of the fair, which this year is switching its name to Washington State Fair. As for country music stars Morgan and Adkins: " Morgan, a singer-songwriter, has 14 Top Ten hits. Before music stardom, he was an EMT, a contractor, a sheriff deputy and an assistant manager for a Walmart store. The Tennessee native also served for 10 years in the Army's 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions, followed by another nine years in the Reserves. He has traveled to Afghanistan to entertain the U.S. troops there. " Adkins has 10 studio albums under his belt and three number 1 singles. Born in Louisiana in 1962, his first job as an adult was working on an oil rig. He studied in college for career in the petroleum industry, but the music bug took hold and he moved to Nashville to give the country genre a try. His debut in 1996 was a platinum seller. Since then, his total album sales have topped 10 million. He has taken his notoriety to the small and big screens, starring in the reality TV show "Celebrity ApprenticeGÇ¥ and the 2011 feature movie "The Lincoln Lawyer,GÇ¥ which also starred Matthew McConaughey.-á More acts for the fair's lineup will be announced in the coming months, a spokeswoman said. T The 17-day fair is one of the biggest in the world and easily the largest in the Pacific Northwest, annually drawing more than 1 million visitors.
