A teacher for the Bethel School District at Frederickson Elementary School was killed in a car accident June 3. District officials confirmed that a vehicle driven by Steven McDonald collided with a concrete-base sign in front of Pierce County Skills Center on Canyon Road. The center, a regional vocational education facility, is operated by the Bethel district. The accident happened after school was dismissed at Frederickson, where McDonald taught computer classes for all grade levels. An employee of the district since 2004, he previously was a teacher in third and sixth grades. District officials learned the day after the accident that McDonald was involved. Frederickson's staff and students were notified over the weekend, and grief counselors were at the school Monday. "We have lost a wonderful teacher. Steve was beloved and admired by students and colleagues alike. He will be deeply missed," said Krista Carlson, a district spokeswoman.
