By Pat Jenkins The Dispatch Becca Schrimpsher saved some of her best for last. In her final home game as an Idaho State University basketball player, the senior from Eatonville played a starring role in a victory over Weber State. Playing before the Senior Day crowd Feb. 28 in Pocatello, Schrimpsher scored 10 points and made a key defensive play late in the Bengals' 63-56 win. With her team ahead by five points and 30 seconds left in the game, Schrimpsher stepped in front of a Weber State pass to steal the ball and seal the triumph. "It was a fun and enjoyable game," Schrimpsher said. "We played great as a team. Our mentality was different (than in a loss to Weber State earlier in the 2014-15 season). We were able to keep them off the offensive boards better in this game. We learned from the mistakes we made in the last game against them." The season wasn't over yet for Schrimpsher and her teammates. The Bengals took a 13-16 season record into the Big Sky Conference women's tournament in Missoula, Mont. They lost March 11 in the quarterfinals 69-67 to Montana, the tourney's host school, but rallied from a 21-point deficit to almost upset the top-seeded Grizzlies. Schrimpsher scored three points and grabbed six rebounds. Going into the regular-season-ending tournament, Schrimpsher, a guard, was averaging 7.3 points and a nearly team-leading 2.4 assists per game. She had scored in double figures in nine games, topped by a season-high 14 points against Utah Valley. Her season-best in assists was six against Eastern Washington in a conference game Jan. 3. Schrimpsher was recruited by Idaho State from Eatonville High School, where she was a three-time league most valuable player. In her first season with the Bengals in 2011-12, they went to the NCAA tournament, losing in the first round to Miami. They haven't been back to the national tourney since then. Schrimpsher is majoring in sociology.
