Senate hopefuls drumming up support

State Sen. Randi Becker and Bruce Lachney, who's hoping to prevent her re-election this fall, are planning campaign kickoffs at the same location four days apart. Lachney's event will be first GÇô June 9 at Frontier Park in Graham, from 2 to 4 p.m. It will be open to the public and provide light-áfood and refreshments. Becker's kickoff is planned at the same park GÇô the home of the Pierce County Fair GÇô on June 13 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. There will be light refreshments. Lachney, a cranberry farmer who is also a former Eatonville School Board member and currently a member of the Clover Park Technical College Board of Trustees, is a Democrat. Becker, who's seeking a second four-year term from the Second District, is a Republican. Becker last week picked up the endorsement of the political action committee (PAC) of the National Federation of Independent Business. NFIB, which represents small-business owners, cited her 95-percent pro-small-business voting record during this year's session of the Legislature. Lawmakers were scored on 10 votes that Patrick Connor, NFIB's Washington director, said were vital to the interests of small businesses. Incumbents earning NFIB's endorsement had to have voted with small business 75 percent of the time.
