Snowshoeing part of free-admission day

Entrance fees at Mount Rainier National Park will be waived Jan, 21 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday. The Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center at Paradise will be open Monday, as well as the Paradise snowplay area. Public snowshoe walks that are about a mile long and last about two hours will be offered at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. A signup sheet will be available at the visitor center one hour before each walk, which are limited to 25 people 8 years old or older on a first-come, first-served basis. A $4 donation per participant would help defray the cost to repair and replace snowshoes. Other free-admission days at Mount Rainier and all other national parks this will include April 22-26 for National Park Week; Great Outdoors Day on June 8; National Park Service Birthday Aug. 25); National Public Lands Day Sept. 28; and Nov. 9-11 for Veterans Day weekend (November 9-11.
