SR-7 reopens to traffic

A 1.5-mile portion of State Route 7, closed since Monday after a mudslide, was scheduled to reopen Friday afternoon, state highway officials said. The segment was closed is near Eatonville, between Ohop Valley Road and 416th Street East. Conditions have improved to the point that officials believe motorists can pass through the area safely without the risk of more slides, said Doug Adamson, a spokesman for the state Department of Transportation (DOT). Highway maintenance crews and geotechnical engineers, watching for signs of more slides, have been monitoring the hillside that broke loose Monday morning. DOT plans to "a long-term plan" for some form of permanent stabilization of the hillside, Adamson said.
