St. Patrick's crackdown on drunk driving

Don't count on the luck of the Irish to get you home safely if you've had too much to drink as a St. Patrick's Day celebration. From March 14 to March 17, police in Pierce County will be among 70 law enforcement officers from 30 agencies here and in Snohomish and King counties who will be assigned specifically to be on the lookout for impaired drivers. The DUI emphasis patrols are being organized in part by the Tacoma-Pierce County DUI and Traffic Safety Task Force. From 2005 to 2013, impaired driving was the cause of 63 percent of all road deaths during the St. Patrick's holiday in Pierce, Snohomish and King counties. Twelve people lost their lives as a result of someone driving drunk, officials said. St. Patrick's Day is March 17.
