The Wright Tarriers, a familiar foe from years past (as well as this one), will be the Eatonville Cruisers' opponent in a first-round game in the state 1A high school football tournament this Saturday. They'll square off at 4 p.m. in Tumwater. The winner will play again the following week in the quarterfinals against the victor of a first-round game between Montesano and Mount Baker. The loser Saturday will see the 2014 season come to an end. Wright and Eatonville have been frequent combatants when they were in the same league. This year, the Cruisers left the Nisqually League to become part of the Evergreen League, and they captured its regular-season championship in what so far has been an undefeated season. One of those nine victories was over Wright, and quite convincingly GÇô 56-6 in a non-league tussle Sept. 12 in the second week of the season. Wright surrendered 50 points in losing to Tenino 50-8. But since those resounding defeats, the Tarriers have battled back, reaching the state tourney by beating Port Townsend 24-14 last Friday in the district playoffs. Eatonville had last week off from competition. The post-season bye came after the Cruisers' concluded their tour de force in the Evergreen with a 40-0 blanking of Forks.
