A town council, two school boards, and a collection of fire and water districts in south Pierce County are looking for people to fill those offices when candidates file next week for this year's election. Starting Monday and ending Friday, candidates can file online or in-person with the county auditor's election department. Online filing is at piercecountyelections.org, and in-person filing with a computer kiosk is at the county election center at 2501 S. 35th St. in Tacoma. Offices that get more than two candidates will be part of the primary election in August. The top two finishers in those races, plus the candidates for any offices that attract fewer than three contenders, will appear on the general election ballot in November. In Eatonville, three Town Council seats are up for election, as is the post of town treasurer. The Bethel School Board and the Eatonville School Board each have three positions to be decided. While the school districts and the town have the highest-profile openings locally, other local government entities have elected positions facing the voters, as well. They include: " South Pierce Fire and Rescue Commission (one seat), Graham Fire and Rescue Commission (one seat) and Fire District 23 (Ashford) Commission (one seat). " Ashford Water Commission (one seat), Clear Lake Water Commission (two seats), Elbe Water District (two seats) and Kapowsin Water District (two seats). Also awaiting candidacies are four offices that will be decided by voters countywide - two for the Port of Tacoma Commission and two for Superior Court judge. Voters countywide also will elect a 21-member charter review commission (three members for each of the seven County Council districts) that will convene to weigh possible changes of the county charter, the constitution-like framework of county government. Any proposed amendments would be decided by voters in the 2016 election. A review commission is elected at least every 10 years.
