Ward Darwyn Shipman/August 29, 1935-September 22, 2014

Ward passed away peacefully with his family at his side at the age of 79. Ward was born in Cooperstown, New York and lived in that area until he joined the Army at the age of eighteen. Ward was stationed at Fort Ord, CA. where he met his wife Sally who was a WAC and they were married in an on- base chapel. They moved to Federal Way when he was discharged and three days later he had a job as an electrician at Boeing, from which he retired after thirty-three years in 1991. Ward joined Steel Lake Presbyterian Church in 1958 and was also a scoutmaster there for seventeen years. After spending many good times around Alder, Ashford, and Eatonville, they bought a farm in Alder in 1977 and later built their retirement home there, where they lived for twenty-three years before moving back to Federal Way in 2013. When living in Alder, Ward and Sally became active in the community and joined the Alder Presbyterian Church where Ward became an Elder and the Treasurer, and he served on the Alder Mutual Power Company board for several years. Ward also made many friends in the Eatonville area. Ward is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sally; his son Alan (Sue) and grandsons Elliot and Christopher. Ward's memorial service will be at Alder Presbyterian Church on October 4th at 11:00AM. Remembrances may be made to Alder Presbyterian Church or the Tacoma Rescue Mission.
