Wilcox, Hunt stay in Legislature

The Republican incumbents are winning the general-election contests for state representative in the Second District. J.T. Wilcox, who is seeking his third two-year term, was well ahead of Steven Nielson with 71 percent of ballots that had been counted after voting ended Tuesday. The showing by Wilcox virtually mirrored the outcome of the primary election in August, in which he finished with 72 percent of the votes against Nielson and a third candidate. Nielson is a member of the Libertarian Party. The district's other race was between Republican Graham Hunt, who waged his first campaign for the office after being appointed earlier this year, and Democrat Greg Hartman, who also ran for representative in 2012. Hunt is leading with 61 of the votes counted so far.. The Second District, which also takes in part of Thurston County, has more than 12,000 registered voters in Pierce County, where Wilcox tallied 73 percent of the votes and Hunt logged 64 percent.
