Wilcox keeps House leadership post

By Pat Jenkins The Dispatch State Rep. J.T. Wilcox is continuing in his role as a leader of Republicans in the House of Representatives. The House Republican Caucus last week retained Wilcox as Floor Leader, again giving him responsibility for procedural functions within the caucus and in the legislative process. Wilcox, whose Second District constituency includes south Pierce County, won a third two-year term as a representative in the recent general election. In remarks similar to those during his re-election campaign, Wilcox said the 2015 session of the Legislature, which begins Jan. 12, brings challenges and opportunities on issues such as economic growth, jobs and the middle class. "Whatever the issue or legislation we consider, we've got to keep in mind that although parts of the economy are rebounding from the recession, wages for many middle-class workers have stagnated,GÇ¥ he said. "We need economic policies designed to help people who are struggling. We also need to pass a state budget that spends taxpayer dollars responsibly and protects schools, public safety and the most vulnerable.GÇ¥ In addition to being Floor Leader, Wilcox is his party's assistant ranking member of the Appropriations Committee, which works closely on state budget issues. He also serves on the Finance and Rules committees. The Republicans are the minority party in the Democrat-controlled House. Other GOP caucus leaders include Dan Kristiansen of Snohomish, the Minority Leader.
