By Pat Jenkins The Dispatch James Moore, one of the top linemen for Bethel High School's football team last season, has signed a letter-of-intent to enroll at Central Washington University and play football for the Wildcats. Moore, 6 foot 3 and 280 pounds, was recruited by CWU to be an offensive lineman. He's part of the first recruiting class of new head coach Ian Shoemaker, who made players for the lines on offense and defense a priority. "We invested a lot of time and energy up front on both sides of the ball, which I'm very excited about," said Shoemaker. "Hopefully, they're going to be together for a long time." Moore is one of two newly recruited offensive linemen from the Graham area where Shoemaker grew up. The other is Luke Asbjornsen, who was an All-South Puget Sound League 4A performer at Graham-Kapowsin High. Asbjornsen and Moore competed against each other when their teams faced off in the SPSL. "We put together 25 good kids in this class," said Shoemaker, who took the Wildcats' reins in December and immediately hit the recruiting trail. "My goal was 20 to 25 and we got 25. What's better is 24 are in-state recruits, which shows the talent quality in this state." Shoemaker also noted the accumulative average grade point average of the 25 newcomers is better than 3.0, which he said indicates "well-rounded people and not just an athlete." The CWU quarterbacks Moore and Asbjornsen block for starting this fall include two new recuits - Kylle Robertson, from Kamiakun, and Jayden Croft of Tumwater. Shoemaker described Robertson as "an athlete-type quarterback with foot speed." Croft helped lead Tumwater to second-place finishes in the class 2A state tournaments the last two years.
