Bethel opened its 2016 high school football season Thursday with a 34-31 loss to Yelm that almost was a rousing come-from-behind victory for the Braves. Two touchdown passes from quarterback Tristyn Gese to Jarrell Anderson and Collin White helped Bethel rally from a 27-13 deficit in the third quarter and pull ahead 31-27 in the final period. But Yelm spoiled the comeback with Dakota Hill's eight-yard touchdown pass to Nick Blanco for the winning points. Gese passed for four touchdowns GÇô twice to Anderson. Seth Smith also caught one, and he ran for another touchdown. The Braves will travel to North Thurston for another non-league game Sept. 9 before making their 3A Pierce County League debut Sept. 16 at Lincoln.
