Driver in truck-bicycle fatality is from Graham

A Graham man was at the wheel of a pickup truck that struck and killed a bicyclist on State Route 507 last Sunday.

The State Patrol reported the accident in Yelm occurred when the truck veered off the roadway and hit the bicycle. Both were traveling in the same direction.

The victim was identified by authorities as Martin E. Valencia, 19. He died at the scene, troopers said.

The truck driver, who wasn't injured in the accident, is 56 years old. His name wasn't released.

The accident, which happened at about 2 p.m., caused long traffic backups and delays while the road was closed for an investigation.
