South Pierce County's high schools have started their 2017-18 winter sports seasons. For the girls basketball teams, the debuts meant a matchup of Bethel School District rivals and a trip south.
Bethel prevailed 63-13 over Graham-Kapowsin in a non-league contest Nov. 27. While the schools are just minutes apart in the Bethel district, they're in different affiliations. Bethel, a 3A school, is a member of the Pierce County League, while G-K is in the 4A South Puget Sound League.
Eatonville traveled to southwest Washington Nov. 28 to face Rochester. The Cruisers won the non-league tussle 46-43, outscoring the Warriors 28-18 in the second half to overcome a seven-point deficit after the first two quarters.
