Barbara Antush was born February 14, 1916 and passed away at age 101 on May 20, 2017 in Yakima. Born in Tacoma, she grew up in the shadow of Mt. Rainier on the Blau Farm just north of Eatonville.
Barbara was awarded the Senior Honor Cup when she graduated from Eatonville High School in 1934, attended Knapp’s Business College and worked as a bookkeeper at Hunt & Mottet Wholesale Hardware.
Barbara met her husband of 62 years, Joseph Antush, at a Halloween Dance in 1940. He preceded her in death as did her sister Agnes Kropf Kolb and brother Jack Blau.
Barbara was active in the St. Joseph’s Altar Society and Circle No. 3, the PTA, her Bridge Club and Sewing Circle. She also chaired the Pregnancy Aid Society at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Barbara is survived by daughters Marie (Gene) Courtney, Barbara (Brian) Beatty, Marilyn (Bill) Proby, sons Phil (Henrietta) Antush and Mark Antush and sister Mary McFadden of Spanaway. She had 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Tacoma on Saturday, May 27, 2017. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
